Areas Treated With IPL Hair Removal:

What is IPL Hair Removal?

IPL removal is a safe, non-invasive treatment that permanently reduces the number of the re-growing hairs. Light pulses are used to damage hair follicles, and impair their ability to grow hair. Damaged hair follicles are eliminated, with excellent long term results.

How Does it Work?

Highly controlled pulses of light are emitted with the IPL hand-piece and are selectively absorbed by the hair follicles lying below the surface of the skin. The absorbed light heats the hair bulb, which damages the re-growth potential of the follicles – all without damaging the surrounding tissue.

What Happens During a Treatment Session?

Your treatment begins by shaving away the hair in the treatment area. A cool gel is usually applied to the area to be treated and you will be given dark glasses or goggles to protect your eyes from the bright light. The pulses of light are applied to your skin, disable the hair follicles and their ability to re-grow hair. You may feel a slight stinging with each light pulse and most people tolerate the treatment well. When the gel is removed, much of the hair is wiped off with it. The remaining hair in the treated area falls out over the next week or two.

The appearance of the treated area immediately following treatment will vary from patient to patient, depending on the extent of the procedure and the skin type. You may experience some slight pinkness or follicular swelling (hive-type reaction) at the treatment site, that usually subsides within a few hours. Cool compresses and aloe vera gel can be used to soothe the skin. True side effects are rare, and if they do occur, are typically minor.

Is IPL Hair Removal Permanent?

While majority of unwanted hair can be destroyed after several IPL sessions, there may be a small percentage of hair that cannot be successfully treated such as light blonde and grey hairs that are lacking pigment. IPL hair removal requires the hairs to be pigmented (light brown or darker) in order to be successful.

What's the Treatment Frequency?

A course of at least 5 to 6 treatments is recommended for optimal results, however some clients who suffer from excessive hair growth due to several factors may need more sessions.

In order to achieve successful results, hair needs to be treated at the active growth stage (anagen, or early anagen phase). While it may appear that all hairs are growing at once, they actually grow asynchronously. Depending on the area, 10-20% may be in the growth phase at any one time. For this reason, treatments are generally performed at 4 to 10 weeks intervals, depending on the area that is being treated, in order to target the percentage hairs that are in the growth phase at that time.

Treatment of Ingrown Hairs

Yes, IPL can treat ingrown hairs. As the IPL penetrates the skin, ingrown hairs can be eliminated. For those that just can’t avoid ingrown hairs as result of other hair removal methods, IPL is the ultimate solution – no more irritation, painful lumps and bumps, or scarring.

Initial Consultation & Test Patch

Initial Consultation & Test Patch

At Totally Skin & Beauty we care for the safety and well-being of our clients. All new clients who are interested in having IPL treatments are required to have a test patch regardless of how many times they have had laser or IPL treatments elsewhere. Our consultation, test patch and treatment is thoroughly and strictly performed by our dermal clinician, Maryan.

Our IPL, the M22 by Lumenis, has been personally selected by our dermal clinicians and directors.

What Can IPL Skin Treatments Target?

• Pigmentation – freckles, age spots, sun spots, mottled skin appearance and sun damage
• Vascular concerns – facial redness, ‘broken capillaries’, ‘spider veins’, and rosacea
• Ageing – ‘photo rejuvenation’

How Does it Work?

Specific wavelengths of light emitted from the IPL are absorbed by haemoglobin (blood) and dark pigment (melanin). The light energy absorbed is converted into heat within the skin. Depending on the target, the heating of the skin triggers various biological changes to occur, eventually resulting in reduction of excess pigment, redness or vessels in the skin, while also stimulating collagen production.

Who Can Have IPL Skin Treatments?

• Clients that are willing to use sunscreen and other sun protective practices before, during and after treatment.
• Clients that are not sun burnt or tanned (natural, solarium or spray tan)
• Clients that have prepped their skin as directed by the dermal clinician if required.
• Client that have had a test patch performed and undergone a consultation with Totally Skin and Beauty’s dermal clinician, Maryan.
• Clients that are not pregnant, breastfeeding, actively attempting to become pregnant or using photosensitising medications.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Depending on the skin condition being treated, you may need one or several treatments to reach the desire outcome. An approximate number of treatments will be discussed with you in your IPL consultation.

What to Expect After Treatments

Immediately after IPL skin treatments you are likely to experience mild to moderate flushing, swelling and sun burnt-like appearance to the skin in the first 24-48 hours. Especially when treating freckles, sun spots and age spots, superficial crusting is an expected outcome and will resolve within a number of days after the treatment.

Acne is skin condition that affects many people, mostly from their teens, and for some well into their adulthood. Acne is not something you should have to ‘put up with’ and there are a number of treatment and management options that our dermal clinicians, Maryan and Leelah, can discuss with you and implement into your acne care plan.

Factors Contributing to Acne

• Specific bacteria – Propionibacterium acnes (‘acne bacteria’)
• Increased production of oil (sebum)
• Production of ‘sticky’ oil (sebum)
• Increased adhesion of skin cells
• Decreased natural exfoliation skin cells
• Hormonal influences
• Increased stress
• Exacerbation by certain cosmetics and skincare – ‘acne cosmetica’

Acne & Acne Scarring Treatments

• Chemical peels
• Microdermabrasion
• Cosmeceutical skincare
• Skin needling
• IPL skin treatments

We use the MiniVac system that uses direct contact of a diamond-coated head combined with a mild vacuum suction to rejuvenate the skin by increasing micro-circulation, thus improving blood supply in the skin.

As it is a non-invasive technique microdermabrasion has earned its popularity due to its low down time and fast effectiveness with various skin conditions and disorders including:Uneven skin tone, the appearance of enlarged pores, hyper-pigmentation, melasma, mild acne, thickened and sun damaged skin, fine wrinkles and mild scarring.

Our highly qualified dermal clinicians, Maryan and Leelah, will arrange for a complimentary skin consultation and will tailor a treatment plan to suit your needs.

A course of 3 microdermabrasion treatments is recommended to attain best results. However a single microdermabrasion treatment is also available best combined with a chemical peel.

Deluxe Microdermabrasion

MiniVac Microdermabrasion provides the exfoliation benefits of diamond tip MiniVac Microdermabrasion for the face, neck and chest (1 hour). Your dermal clinician will discuss with you whether you would prefer to include extractions (removal of blackheads and milia) or prefer to have a facial massage to complete the service. This treatment is ideal for those that have rough skin build up, congestion, blackheads, dull skin, and anyone wanting a deep clean, greater skin clarity, as well as smoother, softer, and more radiant skin.

Skin needling Is an aesthetic medical procedure that involves puncturing of the skin with multiple sterile micro needles. The derma roller micro needles ranges from 0.5 mm to 2.00 mm are specific to instigate a controlled microscopic wound and pin point bleeding. This procedure initiate the body’s own wound healing response thus resulting in the stimulation of collagen and elastin.

Skin needling can be used for scar reduction, uneven skin tone, reducing pore size, and the stimulation of collagen thus reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Our dermal clinicians, Maryan and Leelah, will advise you of the treatment price upon consultation.

At Totally Skin and Beauty all chemical peeling services are performed by our highly experienced and qualified dermal clinicians, Maryan (BHScDT) and Leelah (BHScDT). All procedures are proceeded with a consultation where they will recommend the most suitable peel to achieve optimal results.

Chemical peels use mild acids and enzymes that have exfoliating properties, removing dead skin cells, deep cleanse the skin and allow for the deep penetration of active ingredients.
