The 4 Phases of Your Skin Journey

When it comes to treating skin concerns, we have a proven method to ensure we are maintaining the health and integrity of your skin.

This process includes 4 key phases: stabilise, repair, target and maintain.

We often get clients asking if they can book in right away for skin needling or Viva. Or wondering why they need to start with internals or LEDs which don't appear to be doing anything.

It's because we are healing your skin from the inside and the process takes time!

Let’s explain how it works…

STABILISE

The first step is stabilising the skin. The most common concerns we treat in the clinic are acne, pigmentation, rosacea and redness. And do you know what these all have in common?

Inflammation.

Before we can commence any treatments, we need to reduce any inflammation in the skin and gut. This generally includes an internal cleanse using products such as Skin Clarifier, Skin Defense and Skin Perfection Elixir.

These products are designed to gently cleanse the digestive tract of unwanted toxins and mucus that often find their way to the skin as acne, eczema, or blackheads. It will also help to push out any underlying congestion and soothe inflammation.

At home, we will recommend the use of products that help to reduce inflammation topically. Generally, Rescue Serum and Beta Gel are prescribed for any reactive skin conditions.

During this phase, treatments are usually minimal. Clients may be recommended to have LED or extractions, however, the main focus is usually on topical and internal homecare.

REPAIR

Once we have sufficiently reduced inflammation, the next step is repairing the barrier and minimising any active concerns.

It is during this time that you may repeat an internal cleanse if required, or move onto your core supplements to continue nourishing the skin from the inside.

We can also begin introducing some more active products into your skincare regime. This may include an exfoliator, gentle vitamin a, antioxidant serum, or other targeted serum.

Most clients will also begin more intensive skin treatments. Some of our favourites include Enzyme Therapy, Laser Genesis, Microdermabrasion, Vitamin Infusions or customised Medi-Facials.

During the repair phase, we are also preparing the skin for more intensive treatments that will be more targeted toward your concerns.

TARGET

Once the skin is stronger and functioning well, we can then go in with the treatments that target things like scarring, pigmentation, and fine lines.

Topically, we can introduce more active skincare ingredients, or step up the strength of your current home-care prescription.

The target phase is also more focused on clinical treatments to achieve visible improvements in the skin. Now we know there is no underlying inflammation and your skin is prepped, we can introduce some of our most effective and intensive protocols.

We have a range of proven methods, including Venus Viva for skin resurfacing, Skin Needling for collagen induction and Cosmelan for pigmentation and uneven skin tone. Your clinician will devise the perfect treatment plan, in line with your skin goals, downtime requirements, and budget.

It is during the target phase that you will notice the biggest changes in your skin. And the good news is, once we achieve the desired outcomes, the hard work is mostly done!

MAINTAIN

Ahhh, maintenance. The phase we all want to reach. Generally, the first three stages of your skin journey are the most intensive. Often there is a significant investment of time and money, as well as making changes to lifestyle factors including diet, sleep and stress. The good news is this is usually just a 3-6 month period.

Once we have your skin functioning optimally and your concerns are under control, we can move clients onto a maintenance program. In this phase, the frequency of treatments, time, and cost are all likely to reduce. Yay!

It’s important that you adhere to the maintenance recommendations to ensure your skin continues to improve. If you skip your treatments, stop taking your core supplements or switch back to your previous skincare regime, more often than not your concerns will return.

If this happens, often we are required to start the process again. This means more time, money and treatments!

Once you have reached your maintenance phase, feel free to chat with your therapist about your preferred treatment frequency and budget so we can create a program that is suitable for you.

At St. Skin, we take a holistic approach to healing skin from the inside out. When beginning your journey, we ask that you are patient and trust the process. We know it may take time and there may be ups and downs, but the end result is so worth it!
